Using the Trophy Tank
The Smoktech Trophy Tank (available at MadVapes) is a straightforward tank to use and fill. Since there’s no eGo skirting like some other tanks, it will work on pretty much everything 510 threaded. The size of the tank makes filling fairly simple as there’s plenty of space between the side wall and center tube to fill without missing.
I would caution you to be a little mindful of overfilling since the interior tube doesn’t reach completely to the bottom of the tank.
Ok, already, enough teasing. Let’s talk performance.
While I liked the ProTank, I found that I had to fiddle with it to get the tank properly wicking. I did all sorts of stuff like flipping the gasket, removing wicks and so on. Even then the performance seemed to go downhill after a while. Mostly this was due to the coil getting flooded thanks to my special tweaks.
I expected much the same out of the Trophy tank. So, when I first got it, I filled it up. I took a couple primer puffs and started out at a low wattage, fearing that same burnt taste.
I was pleasantly surprised to find no trace of burning at all. I worked the wattage up and found it hit its stride pretty well at 9 watts. This one has a 1.8Ω head on it, so that came out to about 4v.
The overall vapor production was very pleasing as well producing considerably more vapor than the Kanger. Flavor was about on the same level as the ProTank, which means the reproduction was very good. Something about a Pyrex tank produces nice flavor.
While bottom coil tanks aren’t exactly known for their hot vapor, I found the warmth to be pleasing when running at the higher wattage. Not what I’d call hot or anything, but sort of moderate heat.
As far as the draw goes, that’s definitely a personal preference thing. I’d call it about a medium draw. Not tight at all and maybe just a little airy. For me that hits the sweet spot, just a bit of resistance to feel like you’re puffing on something, but no need to suck on the thing like a Hoover.
I have a feeling there’s going to be two camps, the ProTank people and the rest. I have to say I cast my lot with the knock-off in this case. I tolerated the ProTank while I really enjoy the SmokTech Trophy tank.
Too Long; Didn’t Read
The Trophy Tank from SmokTech is about a blatant copy as you can get. It mimics the Kanger ProTank in nearly every aspect. However, despite being so similar, I found the Smok rendition of the favorite from Kanger to be a much more pleasurable experience. If you want to try it out, they are available at MadVapes.
